Two situations where a set makes more sense than buying singles. First, when you're building a kit for a procedure from scratch — a well-curated set gives you a working palette that's already been tested to function together, rather than assembling shades one by one and hoping the undertones mix correctly on the heal. Second, when the set is an artist collaboration — the Carla Ricciardone LUXE sets, the Anna Kutsevolova Eyebrows Set, the Osinkowska Ombre Brows Collection — these are curated by artists who work in those procedures every day. The shade selection reflects real procedural knowledge, not a brand's marketing decision about what looks good on a shelf. For a studio starting a new procedure or an artist still developing their colour theory, that's worth more than the per-bottle savings of buying singles.
Both are Carla Ricciardone collaborations for lip work, but they target different procedural outcomes. Embody is built for fuller, more saturated lip colour — shades selected for clients who want visible, defined colour that holds through the fade cycle. Enhance is built for correction and definition — shades that work with the client's natural lip tone to improve shape and symmetry without adding heavy colour. The practical split: Embody for clients who come in asking for lip blush that shows, Enhance for clients who want their lips to look better without it being obvious they've had a procedure. Most studios doing consistent lip volume will want both on the shelf.
Both, depending on the set. Starter-oriented sets like the Evenfio Brow Set and Evenfio Lip Set from Perma Blend are designed to give a new artist a functional working palette without requiring deep colour theory knowledge — the shades are selected to cover the most common client requests and work predictably on the heal. More specialised sets like Biotek's Hybrid Long Lasting Brow Pigment Kit or the Draiff Season sets assume the artist already understands their brand's colour system and is expanding coverage rather than building from zero. Artist collaboration sets like the Etalon Mix Anna Kutsevolova Set or the LUXE Chocolate Collection by Amina Sadiq are procedure-specific and work best when the artist has enough experience to understand why the shades were selected the way they were.
The Neutralizing Mini Set is a corrector kit, not a procedure pigment set. It's used to neutralise PMU that has healed with an unwanted colour shift — brows that have gone orange, red, or grey, lips that have faded to an unnatural pink or brown, eyeliner that has shifted to a blue or green tone. The corrector shade goes over the existing shifted pigment to cancel the unwanted undertone before a fresh procedure can go on top. Every studio that takes on correction clients needs correctors on the shelf. It's also worth keeping even if corrections aren't a focus — enough first-time clients arrive with previous work from another studio that has shifted, and refusing to address it before the new procedure often means a worse result.
What is the difference between hybrid and mineral PMU pigment sets?
The terms refer to the pigment base. Mineral pigments use inorganic compounds — iron oxides, titanium dioxide — as the colouring agent. They tend to have more stable, predictable fade behaviour and lower sensitivity rates, which is why they're the default in most professional PMU work. Hybrid pigments combine inorganic minerals with organic colourants to extend the shade range beyond what pure mineral formulas can achieve, particularly in warmer tones and more saturated colours. The Etalon Mix 6 Hybrid Line Set uses hybrid formulas; the 5 Mineral Line Set is fully inorganic. Practically: if a client has a known sensitivity to organic pigments or if you're working in a market where clients ask specifically about ingredient composition, the mineral-only set removes that variable. For most clients and procedures, hybrid formulas perform well and the expanded shade range is the deciding factor.
Can I mix pigments from different sets or brands?
Within the same brand, yes — mixing is standard practice and most brands are formulated to work predictably within their own range. Perma Blend mixes cleanly within Perma Blend, Etalon Mix within Etalon Mix. Cross-brand mixing is more complicated. Different carrier solutions, particle sizes, and pigment loads interact unpredictably on the heal — a mix that looks right in the cap can settle and fade differently in the skin because the two formulas are processing at different rates. The risk is higher in lip and camouflage work where colour accuracy matters most. Most experienced artists who mix across brands test on themselves or do isolated test patches before using the combination on a client. For studios building their kit, the more practical approach is going deeper within one brand's range rather than mixing across brands to fill gaps.
